  Proto Modernism      Protomodernism contains the main points from Modernism, this style rejects the form of historical styles. These decorations didn't mask the meaning but enhanced it. This time period was filled with "Avant-garde" these were people, artists, that were known to push the design limit. Creating experimental or out of the box concepts and designs. Experimenting with forms and ideas for their clients before these ideas were accepted.       The design revolution was also known as the Vienna Secession.  The Vienna succession was a worldwide event that helped advance art history, philosophy, and psychology. This created an interesting culture in design and helped unify the arts. A pronounce influence of the Vienna succession was about house designers.  Art Nouveau Part Two       Art Nouveau means "New Art" and is a decorative style that developed flourished in the late 19th century. Another style that comes along with this is Proto Modernism this time period was from 1897-1959. One of the most influential designers of this time was Frank Lloyd Wright. He has major influences from 1867-1959.      The Vienna Secession in a time that there were many advancements from art, history, psychology, and philosophy. Secession is from the verb to secede, to leave. In this time period many artists were leaving from Victorian historicism, and these Secession groups started all over Europe. They were looking for a Modern national style that was appropriate for the masses.      Otto Wagner was an architect, urban planner, designer, teacher, and writer.  Art Nouveau        The Art Nouveau period lasted from 1890 to 1910. Art Nouveau was not based on traditional or historical design but instead inspired by nature. This period also embraced the technology and manufacturing process. The true meaning of Art Nouveau is new art this came along when Europe was in a period of peace and prosperity. This growth supported new and experimental directions in design. Since this design is based in nature in their design: flowers, birds, vines and insects were used as inspiration. Artist and designers shared an admiration for Japanese art, they were inspired by classic paintings. Art by Van Gogh, Edvard Munch, Gauguin, and Aubrey Beardsley.     Aubrey Beardsley was a British artist that mostly did illustration art. Bearsley majorly influenced the Art Nouveau movement. He was one of the most controversial artists of this period he used black and white on white paper and mostly took from Japanese artwork.    ...

Japan and Japanisme    Chapter 18      Historic Japanese architecture includes Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples, castles, palaces, and other governmental building. In Japanese architecture there is a high variety of size, material, and decoration. An example would be the Castle of Edo, the structure is built out of stone, huge stone walls and wide moats. This time was built on large powerful decorations in their designs and buildings.      Another design that made a large impact in the time was the Imperial Villa at Katsura, this design focuses on aa great hall that's a part of a grand symmetrical complex. The design has a rustic and reflective quality that the larger structures around don't quite have. The villa is sited in the countryside and has connecting tea houses that can be led to by a path connecting them all.
