Art Nouveau Part Two
Art Nouveau Part Two
Art Nouveau means "New Art" and is a decorative style that developed flourished in the late 19th century. Another style that comes along with this is Proto Modernism this time period was from 1897-1959. One of the most influential designers of this time was Frank Lloyd Wright. He has major influences from 1867-1959. The Vienna Secession in a time that there were many advancements from art, history, psychology, and philosophy. Secession is from the verb to secede, to leave. In this time period many artists were leaving from Victorian historicism, and these Secession groups started all over Europe. They were looking for a Modern national style that was appropriate for the masses.Otto Wagner was an architect, urban planner, designer, teacher, and writer. He was concerned with modern architecture as a teacher and writer. Josef Hoffmann was an architect and designer. He was a fan of English Arts and Crafts and admired the work of Charles Mackintosh. Throughout the book I loved seeing the work of these men, one that stuck out to me the most was Palais Stoclet, Music Room. The way that this drawing is laid out and the details really stuck out to me.
Lots of these men as well worked on furniture and the book featured lots of their designs throughout the time. Lots of their work does a great job about thinking outside of the box while also communicating the main vibe of the furniture. In this time period they really worked well on thinking outside of the box and exploring different styles.
ONE STEP FURTHER
Frank Lloyd Wright was and still continues to be a huge influence on the design world. Lots of his work lies in the Midwest, including the Chicago area. Last summer I had the chance to travel to my sisters house in Oregon, there we went to Frank Lloyd Wright's only home in Oregon. It is the Gordon House, and I totally fell in love with his idea of creating homes out of low-cost
materials. It shows that you can create for anyone while also making and designing something that has meaning and lasts.
